Pro Bono Enchanting Social Inclusion

We take pride in connecting impactful civil society organizations with professionals offering their expertise pro bono publico. One of our successes was matching the Fédération des Centres Sociaux et Socioculturels de France (FCSF) with Athenora Consulting, a Brussels-based lobbying agency led by Natacha Clarac, to advance FCSF’s policy reform efforts. This collaboration contributed to a transformative cause: fostering social justice and inclusion across Europe.

The Cause: Empowering Marginalized Communities

FCSF’s Erasmus+ project IFS Fostering Social Justice” (2021-2024) addresses critical issues such as migrant integration, active citizenship and social inclusion. Spanning 11 countries, this initiative enhances European cooperation and strengthens the capacity of professionals and educators in non-formal adult education. By empowering communities with fewer opportunities, FCSF aims to drive systemic change through advocacy, mutual learning, and capacity-building.

The Need for Pro Bono Expertise

As the project neared its conclusion, FCSF sought professional assistance to amplify its message and organize its final policy event at the European Parliament in Brussels. They required help with:

  • Reviewing and refining key documents, such as their policy manifesto.
  • Strategizing outreach to Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).
  • Organizing and maximizing the impact of their culminating event.

The Matchmaking Process

When Sophie Michelena, a representative of FCSF, reached out to our free matchmaking service she hoped to find a partner who could help elevate their efforts. Despite initial challenges, we identified a perfect match in Athenora Consulting, a renowned lobbying firm known for its expertise in European policy advocacy and social justice initiatives.

Led by Natacha Clarac, Athenora Consulting brought invaluable insights to the table. With their strong reputation in public affairs, the team offered pro bono support to FCSF, including:

  • Policy Document Review: refining FCSF’s manifesto, ensuring its language was clear, impactful, and aligned with EU policymakers’ expectations.
  • Event Planning & Strategy: providing advice on organizing their Brussels event, from logistical planning to messaging.
  • Advocacy Support: distributing the manifesto to MEPs and helping FCSF connect with influential stakeholders.

The Results: A Stronger Voice for Social Justice

The collaboration exceeded expectations, enabling FCSF to achieve their goals effectively. With Athenora’s guidance, FCSF successfully:

  • Published a polished manifesto advocating for migrant integration and active citizenship, which is now publicly available on the IFS website.
  • Hosted a high-impact event at the European Parliament, uniting MEPs and civil society leaders around social justice themes. Learn more about the event.

Natacha’s team rephrased critical sections of our paper, distributed the manifesto to MEPs, and helped us organize a memorable final event. They engaged professionally and often responded at short notice.”
